Some of the characteristics of Triggerfish while fishing in the Fort Myers, Florida area are:

• The fight while on the hook: They are strong fighters that can pull hard on the hook and often try to escape into rocks or reefs.
• Size: They have a fork length (FL) minimum size limit of 15 inches in the Gulf state and federal waters, and 12 inches in the Atlantic state waters.
• Habitat: They inhabit rocky or coral reefs, ledges, wrecks, artificial reefs, and sometimes grass beds.
• Coloring: They have a gray body with blue-green spots and lines, a yellow-orange patch near the mouth, and a large dorsal spine that can be raised or lowered
• Type of feeder: They are opportunistic feeders that eat a variety of crustaceans, mollusks, worms, echinoderms, and small fish
