Some of the characteristics of Goliath Grouper while fishing in the Fort Myers, Florida area are:

• The fight while on the hook: They put up a fierce fight while on the hook, often breaking lines, rods, and even pulling anglers into the water.
• Size: They are one of the largest and strongest fish in the Atlantic Ocean, reaching up to 8 feet in length and 800 pounds in weight.
• Habitat: They inhabit reefs, wrecks, mangroves, and bridges in nearshore waters, usually at depths of 15 to 150 feet.
• Coloring: They have a brownish-yellow or olive-green coloring with dark blotches and spots on their body and fins.
• Type of feeder: They are opportunistic feeders that prey on crustaceans, fish, turtles, sharks, and rays.
